Creating a CNAME record for any of the domain names or subdomains you have in the hosting account will enable you to redirect it to a different domain/subdomain. The forwarded Internet domain will lose all its records - A, MX and so forth, and will take the records of the domain it is being directed to. In this light, you simply can't create a CNAME record to direct your domain name to a third-party provider and keep a working email service with the first provider. Additionally, it is important to note that a CNAME record is always a string of words and not a number because it is generally wrongly identified as the A record of the domain name being redirected. One of the main uses of a CNAME record is to forward a domain address that you own through one company to the servers of some other company if you have created an Internet site with the latter. This way, the site will appear under your own domain, not under some subdomain provided by the third-party provider.

CNAME Records in Shared Web Hosting

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which we provide with each and every shared web hosting, will allow you to set up CNAME records for every domain address or subdomain hosted within the account with several clicks. If you aren't confident how to go about it, you can check out the video tutorial that is available within the Control Panel, read the comprehensive Help article on the subject, or simply contact us and we can help you 24/7, though it is not likely you'll experience any difficulties as all it takes to create a new CNAME record is to pick a domain/subdomain, type in the hostname you're pointing to, and save the modification. The new record is going to be fully active within the hour. Using CNAME records allows you to have better control of your domain names and site content and our system is simple and user-friendly enough to allow people who have no previous experience to set up such records easily.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with every single one of our semi-dedicated server accounts, will allow you to create a CNAME record without difficulty. In case you want to create a private URL for your emails, to redirect a domain to a subdomain in the account or to forward a domain name to another provider and use some third-party service which they provide, it won't require more than 3 mouse clicks to set up this type of record. All DNS records for the domains and subdomains hosted within the semi-dedicated account will be listed in a separate section in the CP, so once you are there, all that you will have to do will be to choose the type of the record that you want to set up and the hostname for which you are creating it, and then enter the actual record text. For your benefit, you can see a short video in the Control Panel about how to create a CNAME record or you can follow the instructions in the help article, that's available in the DNS records section.
